A. An elder protection order shall be issued for a period not to exceed twelve (12) months.

B. The order may be extended as many times as necessary to protect the elder, but only after a petition is filed by the party seeking an extension and notice, opportunity for hearing, and a determination based upon clear and convincing proof that such an extension is necessary for the protection of the elder. Each extension shall be for a period of twelve (12) months.
