No benefits of any nature shall be payable for injury and/or death caused or contributed to by any drug, including narcotics and hallucinogens, whether organic or chemical in nature, or any gas, vapors, and/or fumes taken and/or inhaled voluntarily, or by voluntarily poisoning, except those drugs prescribed by a physician or other practitioner licensed to prescribe such medication. However, no benefits under this Act shall be payable in the event the claimant’s injury or death was caused by the intentional abuse of prescribed drugs in excess of the prescribed therapeutic amounts.
