There shall be three types of adoptions recognized by the Osage Nation, namely:

A. Statutory adoptions under Osage Nation law;

B. Statutory adoptions under the laws of some other tribe, state or nation having jurisdiction over the parties and the subject matter;

C. Traditional adoptions which may be for the purpose of establishing any traditionally allowed family relationship between any persons and which shall be governed by the tribal common law. Unless otherwise specifically provided by Osage Nation statute, traditional adoptions create a particular stated family relationship between persons for all purposes other than enrollment and the probate of decedents’ estates.
