The Osage Nation intends to empower survivors of criminal actions to use their voices and hold the accused accountable. A person who identifies as a survivor may not see themselves as a victim because they have gained strength through their process of healing. The Osage Nation Congress intends to secure justice and due process for victims throughout the criminal and juvenile justice systems and acknowledges them not as victims, but as survivors. To this end, the Osage Nation Congress provides that victims of crime shall have rights, which shall be protected by law in a manner no less vigorous than the rights afforded to the accused.
